Throwback Thursday: My Guardian Cowboy

It's Thursday, again. I thought today we would take a trip back in time to my first M/M release called My Guardian Cowboy. So if you want a little yeehaw in your step, check out this short story.

Blurb:

Ethan thought his world was perfect until it was shattered. Nursing a broken heart, he meets a mysterious cowboy in a bar. Gabe's sexy lips and broad chest draw Ethan in immediately, but before Ethan can explore his cowboy’s body, he disappears into the night.
Ethan searches for his cowboy under every cowboy hat he sees. Then, by some miracle, Gabe appears back into his life. Drawn to him like no other, Ethan will do anything to hold onto Gabe lest he vanishes again.

Excerpt:

Ethan sat at the bar, staring at the defoaming head of his beer. The dark beverage used to elicit so many feelings in him. Now it was a means to an end. He had been sitting there for hours, tuning out the music in the background. Patrons kept popping quarters into the jukebox. Poppy, modern day rock, blared over the speakers followed by twangy country songs that grated his nerves with each note. Each time the quarter slid into the slot he cringed. No matter how much he tried to block out the tunes, his mind played one thing over and over again. A singular thought taunted him.

What the fuck had happened?

Earlier that night, he had arrived home late from work. He had hoped to find Simon sitting on the couch waiting for him, the way he normally was if he was late. Loosening his tie, he had slipped into his bedroom to get ready for a shower. But what Ethan had walked into stopped his heart.

No, he couldn’t see the image again. It brought too much pain to his already addled brain. He squeezed his eyes shut and shook his head, trying to clear the image from his mind. Where it had all gone wrong? Why hadn’t he seen the signs? Was it him? Life had been going to crap until he met Simon. His lover had peeled him away from suicide. The few precious moments of happiness he had in his life had just been shattered. Everything was now back to square one. What would happen tomorrow? What was going to happen five years from now? Ten years from now? Nothing else mattered. His heart was broken. His soul was shattered.

Ethan gripped the handle of the beer mug tighter, contemplating drinking the whole thing down in a couple of swallows. The heady smell enticed him. He could already taste the malty liquor on his tongue. It’d be so easy to imbibe the whole drink and then another. And then one after the other until the familiar headache started, the double vision, and then the blackout. He’d then fall into oblivion and wake up on someone’s couch. He’d lost so many nights to imbibing too much. Until Simon. His lover had awakened him from the stupor he’d been in. Ethan had never loved anyone so much to really want something. That was when he put down the booze and got into a program. The last time he’d been in a bar was nine months ago. It would be so easy to throw it all away. Why not drown his sorrows once more, throw caution to the wind, and wake up in some flea bitten motel with a gigolo, or someone he’d meet at the bar after hours of drinking?

He lifted the beer. The glass was no longer frosted. The coaster it had sat on was wet and the grains of salt he’d sprinkled on it glistened from the sweat on the glass. The scent enticed him so much. One sip. Simon would say it was time to call his sponsor or hit a meeting. He didn’t want to fuck up everything he’d worked for over the past nine months. Fuck it. He’s the one who ruined everything. He’s the one who drove me to this.

“You sure you want to do that, cowboy?”

Ethan glanced to his left at the man leaning on the bar. Typical cowboy, chewing on a toothpick. Hat pulled down over his face, showing only the square jaw with the slight, stubble on his chin. A long brown duster brushed the peanut strewn floor. The shells crunched under his weight when he shifted his feet. A small smile curled the corner of his mouth.

“Why is that?” Ethan asked the cowboy.

The other man leaned over the bar and drew a beer out of the ice-filled bin below. The bartender rushed over. The cowboy laid down a five on the mahogany bar. He twisted the top on the bottle, gripped the neck, and then knocked back a few swallows. Ethan eyed him enviously. The patron dragged his hand across his mouth and set the bottle down.

“Because you look like a starving horse ready to gorge himself on three bales of hay. I take it you’re a man who hasn’t had a drink in a while. You sure you want to go down that road again?”

“Why not? My world’s turned to shit. Something has to drown my sorrows. Care to join me? I’ll buy the next round.”

He lifted his hat and stared Ethan directly in the eye. At that moment, something in Ethan melted. Deep green eyes peered into his soul. His hand shook. He set the glass down and tried to catch his breath. The feeling he knew this man overwhelmed him. The man smiled, flashing him a mouthful of even white teeth. Almost too perfect. The need to pick up his mug and take a long swig of beer enveloped him, but he fought it off. Hurt overtook him. A lump of emotion formed in his throat. The cowboy was too intriguing and what he said made sense. Ethan switched his gaze back to the beer.

“You never answered my question from before—you sure you want to do that?”

Ethan studied the half of his reflection that showed in the mirror. Disheveled brown hair adorned his head. Blue eyes with dark circles underneath them stared back at him. Stubble dotted his cheeks. The collar was open on his red shirt. His black tie was shoved into the pocket of his pants, dangling from the barstool. Ethan glanced back at the cowboy. Those amazing green eyes captured him. “So what’s your question?”

“You look like someone who could use a good cup of coffee instead of a stiff drink. Why don’t we get out of here? Then we can figure out where to go from there.”

Ethan chuckled and shook his head. He’d heard that line before. He’d used it on Simon and other men in the past to bed them. “I’d rather have the beer than the coffee. Thanks for the offer though.”

“But you do need someone to talk to.”

“And you’re that person for me?” Ethan asked.

The other man took off his hat and set it on the bar. He ran a hand through his chestnut hair. “I can lend an ear. I’ve always been good at listening. At least that’s what my mother always said.”

He smirked. “Well it sounds like you’re just a standup kinda guy. Willing to help anybody.”

The cowboy’s eyes narrowed. “Not anybody. Just those that need a hand and I sensed that you need one right now. Why don’t you just call me your guardian angel?”

Ethan couldn’t take anymore of the goody-two-shoes act from the other man.“Guardian angel, huh?”

“Yeah.”

“I don’t think so.”

He slapped his money down on the bar, pushed his mug away, and decided it was better to have that cup of coffee. Drinking his troubles away wasn’t the best thing in the world. Ethan grabbed his jacket from the back of the stool and slung it on. It was no use straightening it out because it was rumpled from him sitting on it. The cowboy grabbed his arm.

“Hey, man, leave me alone,” Ethan growled. He tried to pull away, but the other man’s grip was too tight.

The hard expression on the cowboy’s face melted. “I’m not here to pick you up. I’m here offering assistance. It seems like you’ve had a pretty bad day and you need someone to talk to. Why not take me up on my offer? I’ll buy. I won’t say anything. I’ll just listen.”

Ethan saw the sincere expression. A deep attraction wound around him and flushed his skin. Something about the man seemed so familiar, like he’d known him before. He gazed around the bar. No one else paid them any mind. They were in a world of their own. The music on the jukebox, another twangy song, grated on his nerves. A couple leaned over the music maker, perusing the song selection. He could already here the cha-chink of the quarters sliding down the jukebox’s slot setting up the next four songs. The aroma of stale cigarettes lingered in the air. The peanut shells cracked under his feet. It was just a matter of time. If he stayed in the bar, he would eventually pick up that drink. Ethan glanced over the people playing pool, laughing and joking, to the couple nestled in the corner sipping two glasses of wine. Other patrons were knocking back shots of tequila. A small group of frat boys were partying in another corner. Yeah. It was best that he stayed sober even though his heart was shredded and his soul was stomped on. He sighed and shook his head. If he went into work with another hangover, after his last warning, he’d be fired on the spot.

The cowboy released his arm. Ethan studied him. He saw the muddy boots and the dirt clinging to the bottom of his duster. It seemed he’d had a hard road. He was grimy and looked like he needed a shower, shave and a place to stay. It appeared he was in need of more comfort than Ethan did.

“Okay. I’ll take that cup of coffee. But it’s only coffee.”

The cowboy smiled. The corners of his eyes crunched up and a small dimple appeared in his left cheek. It reminded Ethan of a freckle it was so dark. Underneath all the muck, he appeared handsome. Anyone would have him. And yet no one was coming up to him. He wondered why that was. Maybe it was as the cowboy said—he was his guardian angel. Whatever the reason, Ethan wanted to reach out and touch his flesh, but he resisted the urge.

“Good choice. Know any good coffee shops around here?”

Ethan nodded. “Yeah. There’s one right around the corner. I guess it works out that way. They set up shop around a bar because they know when the bars close and the drunks are going to need someplace to go sober up.”

“Yeah. That sounds about right.”

The cowboy held the door for Ethan, who strolled out into the night. When the cool breeze hit him, it lifted his soul. He glanced at stars and instead of the dim lights he’d seen earlier, they were bright shining jewels that sparked a feeling of hope deep inside of him.

A Hint of Ginger

Well Christmas is going to be here soon. *Sigh* I know. I can't believe it either. But to get you into the mood, here is a little bite from my Christmas Release coming in December from Sugar and Spice Press.

Ginger Bites is a Werewolf/Shape shifter Menage M/F/M with a dash of humor thrown into it. So if you adore gingerbread, I hope you love two hunky wolves who love it too.

Enjoy!

Blurb:

Ginger has never really enjoyed Christmas. It reminds her that she’ll always be alone because of her curse. Although she yearns to be with someone, but if she doesn’t click with them right away her hunger grows until her human façade falls away revealing her true self. The guilt of all the innocent lives she’s taken plagues her and this holiday season isn’t looking to be any different. Just once she’d like someone to call her own and feel human.

Zach and Cameron are two werewolves who stumble into Ginger’s bakery to set up a Christmas party for their benefactor. Zach can’t get Ginger from his mind, but in order to be with her he hopes Cameron can get along with her too. If not, then the unthinkable will happen. All the while, Ginger has another suitor who desires to claim her for himself at any cost. Zach and Cameron will do anything to save her because all they want to do is spend Christmas with the woman they love.

Excerpt:

Once his mouth touched hers, a jolt of passion rushed through her. She moaned into his mouth and sunk into the kiss. Ginger fought to regain control of herself, but every instinct in her was to surrender to his arms. Finally she ran her fingers down his chest. His muscles were defined. Zach moaned. His hands rested on her hips, sliding them along her curves until he cupped her ass and gripped it. She jumped and turned her head to break the kiss.
“What is it?” he asked.
Ginger glanced up and saw his blue eyes had turned golden brown. “You taste good.” She ran her nails down his chest and stopped at the waistband of his jeans. If she went any further, this might turn into something she was not expecting. It felt good to be in someone’s arms and it had been a while since she had given herself over to the urges inside of her. Normally she was so keyed up whether or not if she would have to breakdown and eat the man. But with them, it was different. Every fiber of her being screamed to give in and she just this once she was going to.
“So what does this mean?” Zach asked.
“I want you,” Ginger whispered.
“I’ll give you some privacy than,” Cameron said.
But Ginger looked at him and saw the hurt in his eyes. “I didn’t say you had to leave.”
Cameron’s mouth turned up into a smile. “Well then, that changes everything. Is this going to be a problem with you, Zach?”
Ginger studied the other werewolf and all she was his eyes burning with desire. He took in a deep breath as though he was struggling to hold onto his control. His cock pressed against her thigh so she knew he was ready for her. He gripped her ass a little harder before letting her go and faced Cameron. “No. It won’t be a problem. Just so long as you’re not worried we won’t eat you.”
She laughed. “I can trust you. I don’t think I’m your type. You might find me too sweet for your taste.”
Cameron’s arms slipped around her waist. His touch inflamed her desire even more. He kissed her neck and nipped her ear. “I have a sweet tooth. So no worries there.”
He bit into her neck playfully. Ginger arched her back at the sudden contact while Cameron feathered his fingers up her stomach to cup her breasts. She let her head fall back against his chest and for the first time she started to feel like a normal human. Nothing in her was being triggered that she had to eat these guys. Maybe they were the key to changing her destiny. He brushed his thumbs over her nipples which firmed instantly at his touch.
“You don’t get to monopolize her, Cam. She did say she wanted both of us,” Zach reminded them. He took her hand and kissed the back of it, sucking one of her fingers into his mouth.
Ginger shook herself from the daze she had fallen into. “You’re both right. So whose bedroom has the biggest bed?” She dislodged herself from both wolves and slipped her shall off, placing it on the leather couch before her. She headed toward the hallway and plucked off her shoes as she did.  Stopping midway down the hallway, she glanced behind her and waited to see if they were coming. So far they were watching her. Ginger unzipped the back of her dress and shimmied out of it, leaving it on the floor. After that they followed.
“My room as the biggest bed.” Cameron led her through a door at the very end of the hall.
Ginger and Zach followed him into the room. She watched him hurriedly take off his clothes. Scars marred his chest, telling a story of his life. She traced her finger over a few of them and felt Cameron shiver under it. “Battle scars?”
He nodded. “Before I was cursed, I was fighting for position in the pack. Being the leader’s son didn’t mean anything.”
Cameron cupped her cheek and wound his fingers through her hair. His nostrils flared. “Why is it I smell gingerbread when I’m around you?”
Panic rushed through her for a moment. Should she tell them what she was? They would have to know eventually. But they did not need to know right at this moment. It would break the mood and she needed this. Needed to know she was wanted and they desired her. She shrugged. “I work in a bakery and it’s the Christmas season. Do you know how many gingerbread cookies we are making?”
“Right. Sorry,” Cameron apologized.
“You don’t like the aroma?” she asked.
“No. It’s great, but it makes me hungry. That’s all,” Cameron said.
“Me too,” Zach added.

Quick Look into The Dragon & His Houseboy 2

Hi Everyone,

How many of you loved The Dragon and His Houseboy 1? Well I loved the world so much, I decided to write a second one that will be coming out from Sugar and Spice Press on Oct. 20th.

I hope you enjoy this new installment because I've started on a third one as well taking all the characters from the first two and putting them into the up and coming book. But I'm getting ahead of myself here.

Here is a quick except to steam your glasses and make you dream about sexy dragon shifters.

Blurb:

Wyr is a dragon hybrid who has been alone for over a hundred years and an outcast among his own kind. When mistaken identity makes him the priest for a local village, he takes up residence in a cave within a volcano. While he gives advice to the town, he keeps his true heritage hidden.

Tahan is the son of a local merchant with an arranged marriage looming over his head. He wants nothing of his father’s business or the marriage. Instead, Tahan has a few secrets of his own and has eyes for the village priest. Tahan admits he knows the priest’s secret only to face his anger, but when Tahan touches him Wyr realizes his true affections for the man.

In order to save the man he loves from the volcanic eruption, Wyr must reveal his true nature. By doing so, his existence is threatened. Still he would do anything to make Tahan happy and see him safe. Even give up his life.

Excerpt:

The miniature dragon jumped into the air and flapped around the room until it settled on the altar and nibbled on a piece of fruit. Wyr’s stomach growled and he realized he was hungry. He ran his hands over his thighs, and it was then he remembered he was still wrapped in the towel and it was fairly sheer.
“That is a marvelous talent. Something the god would appreciate,” he said and shuffled his feet, trying not to feel the attraction flaring through him.
“Is it good enough for me to stay?” He stared at him.
All Wyr could focus on were those smoldering blue eyes under long cinnamon lashes. His throat went dry again. Wyr shook his head and found the words. “I really don’t think…”
Tahan slid his hand over Wyr’s growing erection and squeezed it. “I know the true reason why you sent me away yesterday. I understand your anger when I revealed that I knew what you were. You’ve been keeping it a secret because you know the villagers won’t accept it. Just the way they won’t accept me. Another reason why you were livid was because you don’t want to admit to yourself you’re attracted to me. Tell me I’m not right.”
He tried to clear his throat, but Tahan held him captive. His emotions whirled around his mind. His heart slammed into his chest. Wyr tried to back away, but Tahan placed a hand on his shoulder. The soft touch ignited the pull he had for the other man. The little dragon let out a small stream of fire and ignited one of the candles on the altar. Heat flushed inside of Wyr as his muscles contracted again with an oncoming shift.
Wyr tried to remain calm and focus on his breathing, hoping the shift wouldn’t overtake him. The transformation had already started. His back muscles were bunching along his shoulder blades, gathering mass to hold the weight of his great wings. His skin itched. When he glanced down, his tanned skin had already taken on a mauve hue.
“You should go.” He forced out the words.
“I’m not afraid of you,” Tahan said. “That should be evident by me coming here, falling to my knees and begging you to let me stay here. By touching you and kissing you the other day. I’ve seen how you looked at me when I’ve visited in the past, the longing in your eyes and how you stiffen up when I get close.” Tahan squeezed his cock once more.
A moan escaped Wyr’s throat. Beads of perspiration slid down his temple. He yearned to wipe them away, but didn’t dare move in case the sudden movement agitated his fragile state. “None of that matters.”
A devilish smile turned Tahan’s mouth up. He stepped closer and conformed his body to Wyr’s. “Yes, it does. You’re just fighting it because you don’t believe I’m really attracted to you. You’re thinking I’m only doing this because I want sanctuary. But I’m not. I’ve wanted to be with you for a long time. All those times I’ve watched you, I saw the hurt you held inside. It was in the way you carried yourself. Anytime you come to town you try to remain aloof, but I see the longing in your eyes. The council doesn’t see it, but I do. Please let me stay.”
Wyr’s muscles trembled as Tahan’s warm breath blasted against his flesh. The other man rested his head on Wyr’s shoulder, placing kisses along his collarbone. The ache to wrap his arms around the other man nearly crushed him, but Tahan had said exactly what was on his mind. He was showing him affection because he needed a place to escape from the world and he had hoped that Wyr could provide that. Of course the more he thought about it, the more he yearned to have him for a companion. It had been a long time since he had been with anyone. Tahan flicked his tongue along Wyr’s Adam’s apple and spikes of delight rammed through him nearly overcoming the twisting of his muscles from the change. His cock grew firmer from the contact and he was burning up from the inside out.
“Let me stay,” Tahan whispered. He met Wyr’s eyes.
His will was crumbling. He sighed and tore his gaze away. “Fine. You can stay, but don’t think that you have to…”
Tahan placed a finger to Wyr’s lips. “Trust me. This is what I want to do. Just relax. Please.”
Wyr saw the need in his eyes. The desire ran rampant through him. All he wanted to do was give himself over to Tahan, but the shift was happening. “Relaxing is near impossible when I’m about to shift.” He stepped away and rolled his shoulders, feeling the dragon scraping along the inside of his skin to get out.
Tahan touched his back and massaged his muscles where the tension was held the most. He arched his back and began to calm down. As Tahan rubbed the area, the dragon retreated. He studied his arms and saw the flesh was no longer shaded purple. It had never happened before. The weight of his wings receded. He had heard whispers among the shape-shifter community of these things happening, but he thought they were just a myth.
“Does that feel good?” Tahan asked.
“Mmmm…very good. Stop for a moment.”
Tahan groaned. “If you enjoy it, then why do you want me to stop?”

May Newsletter

May Newsletter

Hi Everyone,

April was a busy month and the first of May came and went before I knew it. Then I was busy with the day job and getting ready for the vacation that I just got back from. Within that time I had two releases come out, Vengeance: Devil’s Tavern 2 with Purple Sword Publications and Impassioned Waters: Storm Riders 3 with Sugar and Spice Press.

Of course I’ve been working on other books, but it has been slow going with my muses and I’ve hit a little bit of brain fry. At least it’s not writer’s block because I’ve been flooded with ideas and started writing two of them at least. I’ve begun the third book in my Fur World and crossing it with A Cat For All so the characters will interact with one another. It will be a m/f/m menage as the others are. Not sure where it’s going yet, but it will get there.

The other idea is a little bit of a secret but I will say it involves a shape shifting alien. I’m not really into sci-fi so this project will be a little bit different for me. I hope to have to done by the end of the summer. We’ll see how it goes. The Dragon and His Houseboy 2 is almost done. I should be editing it next week.

If you’re going to be in Charlotte, NC June 1st- June 3rd come and see me at ConCarolina as I’ll be a panelist and I’ll be at FandomFest June 28-July 1st in Louisville, KY. So come out and say hello.

Wes and Samuel are partners in all things. For the past two centuries, they have ridden earthquakes as Storm Riders. These cowboys run a dude ranch and can’t think of a more perfect life until Adina appears to them.

Adina, looking for acceptance, has come to the Riders hoping for an open position among them. Trouble follows her, no matter how much she tries to hide.

Not able to deny their growing attraction to one another, each cowboy must face the passion between all three of them. When someone tries to kill Adina, they swear vengeance and go in search of her shooter, only to find that heaven has other plans for these three lovers.
Excerpt:
Wes felt a pang of heartache. “Well it sounds like you chose the right thing to do. Again, I’m sorry for bringing this on you.”
“Daniel saw all of my memories. I don’t know if him seeing how I said no to my mother was the thing that got him to let me live. At least until the other angels find out. Then I guess I’ll face them too.”
“Maybe he won’t tell them. You’ll be safe as long as we keep watch over you.” Samuel knelt before Adina. He took her hands in his and gazed up at her, completely enamored with her.
A pang of jealously went through Wes seeing his lover ogle Adina. “Ahh will you excuse us for a minute?” Wes got up and tugged on Samuel’s shirt. He pulled him out of the room and a little down the hallway, but still where he could see Adina. Samuel glanced toward her and made to go back into her room when Wes squeezed his arm.
“What has gotten into you?” He lowered his voice so she wouldn’t hear them.
Samuel’s expression softened. “Nothing. Why?”
“Just a few minutes ago you were telling me to let Daniel have her. Then you were fighting to save her from him. Now you’re kneeling in front of her and slobbering over her like you’re her bitch. Have you lost your mind?”
“Of course not. I just think we should make sure that she’s comfortable and she doesn’t want for anything. You said that you didn’t want to see her hurt. We are the ones responsible for this.” Samuel slid his hand along Wes’s stomach and down to his crotch.
He cupped his stirring cock and conformed his body to his. “We have to keep her safe, love. I just want to see that happen.” He pressed his lips to Wes’s and tugged on his bottom lip, taking it between his teeth before plunging his tongue deep into Wes’s mouth.
Wes moaned from the sudden gesture. He pushed harder into his lover, feeling the solid muscles underneath him. Samuel continued to kiss him, touching his tongue, fondling it. Wes slid his fingers through his partner’s hair enjoying the silky texture of the strands. He always loved Samuel’s hair and how good it felt. Short or long, it didn’t matter it was always soft. He still tasted the beer on Samuel’s breath, but with each lingering kiss, his cock got harder. It was all he could do to pull away from him and focus back on Adina. He knew Samuel was right. They had to keep her save. After all, it was his fault she was exposed. Wes cupped Samuel’s face and ran the pad of his thumb over his lips. Samuel tried to bite it playfully.
“Why do I put up with you?” Wes chuckled.
“Because you love to fuck me with that eight-inch dick of yours.” Samuel squeezed his shaft.
Wes moaned. “Don’t get frisky now. We have to figure out what to do with our guest. And we have to get the glass cleaned up and get her another room while the windows are being replaced. And—”
Samuel placed a finger on his lips. “Why don’t we bring her back to the cabin? We have a spare room. That way we can keep a better eye on her in case the angel comes back and says we’re not doing a good enough job.”
He sighed. Having Adina that close to them wasn’t something he looked forward to. He didn’t appreciate the idea of her being in the next bedroom where she could hear their intimate moments or even them snoring. And Samuel had a tendency to cut a lot of logs while they slept. Sometimes he was so noisy, Wes ended up in the guest bedroom.
Now he would have to sleep on the couch.
“I don’t know, Samuel. Having her there might not be such a good idea.”
Samuel slid his fingers down Wes’s shirt and began fiddling with one of the buttons on his fly. “Are you afraid that I’m going to sneak in there while you’re fast asleep and try to make love to her? She is an attractive woman.”
“When did you start having a thing for women?”
His partner shrugged. “I’m not saying I want to fuck her. I’m only saying she’s good-looking. Don’t you think so?”
Wes stepped back from Samuel not believing his ears. He’s gone wacky. This has to be her doing. The man he cared about would never comment on a woman. Normally, Wes filled his ears about how big a guy’s dick was or the latest porn he had been looking at on the Internet. Never about women unless he thought she was a guy in a past incarnation. He wanted to say something, but it was clear Samuel was not in control of his faculties. Instead he walked back into the room. Adina was by the windows staring out at the horses, which were running in the enclosure.
“They’re so beautiful.”
“Yeah, they are. Now undo whatever spell you’ve put on my partner.”
Adina turned her eyes were puffy from the crying she had done before. “I’m not sure I know what you mean. I didn’t do anything to Samuel.”
“Of course you have. You’ve taken my macho, headstrong boyfriend, and turned him into a besotted fool.”
