May Newsletter

May Newsletter

Hi Everyone,

April was a busy month and the first of May came and went before I knew it. Then I was busy with the day job and getting ready for the vacation that I just got back from. Within that time I had two releases come out, Vengeance: Devil’s Tavern 2 with Purple Sword Publications and Impassioned Waters: Storm Riders 3 with Sugar and Spice Press.

Of course I’ve been working on other books, but it has been slow going with my muses and I’ve hit a little bit of brain fry. At least it’s not writer’s block because I’ve been flooded with ideas and started writing two of them at least. I’ve begun the third book in my Fur World and crossing it with A Cat For All so the characters will interact with one another. It will be a m/f/m menage as the others are. Not sure where it’s going yet, but it will get there.

The other idea is a little bit of a secret but I will say it involves a shape shifting alien. I’m not really into sci-fi so this project will be a little bit different for me. I hope to have to done by the end of the summer. We’ll see how it goes. The Dragon and His Houseboy 2 is almost done. I should be editing it next week.

If you’re going to be in Charlotte, NC June 1st- June 3rd come and see me at ConCarolina as I’ll be a panelist and I’ll be at FandomFest June 28-July 1st in Louisville, KY. So come out and say hello.

Quaking Hearts- M/M/F
Wes and Samuel are partners in all things. For the past two centuries, they have ridden earthquakes as Storm Riders. These cowboys run a dude ranch and can’t think of a more perfect life until Adina appears to them.

Adina, looking for acceptance, has come to the Riders hoping for an open position among them. Trouble follows her, no matter how much she tries to hide.

Not able to deny their growing attraction to one another, each cowboy must face the passion between all three of them. When someone tries to kill Adina, they swear vengeance and go in search of her shooter, only to find that heaven has other plans for these three lovers.
Excerpt:
Wes felt a pang of heartache. “Well it sounds like you chose the right thing to do. Again, I’m sorry for bringing this on you.”
“Daniel saw all of my memories. I don’t know if him seeing how I said no to my mother was the thing that got him to let me live. At least until the other angels find out. Then I guess I’ll face them too.”
“Maybe he won’t tell them. You’ll be safe as long as we keep watch over you.” Samuel knelt before Adina. He took her hands in his and gazed up at her, completely enamored with her.
A pang of jealously went through Wes seeing his lover ogle Adina. “Ahh will you excuse us for a minute?” Wes got up and tugged on Samuel’s shirt. He pulled him out of the room and a little down the hallway, but still where he could see Adina. Samuel glanced toward her and made to go back into her room when Wes squeezed his arm.
“What has gotten into you?” He lowered his voice so she wouldn’t hear them.
Samuel’s expression softened. “Nothing. Why?”
“Just a few minutes ago you were telling me to let Daniel have her. Then you were fighting to save her from him. Now you’re kneeling in front of her and slobbering over her like you’re her bitch. Have you lost your mind?”
“Of course not. I just think we should make sure that she’s comfortable and she doesn’t want for anything. You said that you didn’t want to see her hurt. We are the ones responsible for this.” Samuel slid his hand along Wes’s stomach and down to his crotch.
He cupped his stirring cock and conformed his body to his. “We have to keep her safe, love. I just want to see that happen.” He pressed his lips to Wes’s and tugged on his bottom lip, taking it between his teeth before plunging his tongue deep into Wes’s mouth.
Wes moaned from the sudden gesture. He pushed harder into his lover, feeling the solid muscles underneath him. Samuel continued to kiss him, touching his tongue, fondling it. Wes slid his fingers through his partner’s hair enjoying the silky texture of the strands. He always loved Samuel’s hair and how good it felt. Short or long, it didn’t matter it was always soft. He still tasted the beer on Samuel’s breath, but with each lingering kiss, his cock got harder. It was all he could do to pull away from him and focus back on Adina. He knew Samuel was right. They had to keep her save. After all, it was his fault she was exposed. Wes cupped Samuel’s face and ran the pad of his thumb over his lips. Samuel tried to bite it playfully.
“Why do I put up with you?” Wes chuckled.
“Because you love to fuck me with that eight-inch dick of yours.” Samuel squeezed his shaft.
Wes moaned. “Don’t get frisky now. We have to figure out what to do with our guest. And we have to get the glass cleaned up and get her another room while the windows are being replaced. And—”
Samuel placed a finger on his lips. “Why don’t we bring her back to the cabin? We have a spare room. That way we can keep a better eye on her in case the angel comes back and says we’re not doing a good enough job.”
He sighed. Having Adina that close to them wasn’t something he looked forward to. He didn’t appreciate the idea of her being in the next bedroom where she could hear their intimate moments or even them snoring. And Samuel had a tendency to cut a lot of logs while they slept. Sometimes he was so noisy, Wes ended up in the guest bedroom.
Now he would have to sleep on the couch.
“I don’t know, Samuel. Having her there might not be such a good idea.”
Samuel slid his fingers down Wes’s shirt and began fiddling with one of the buttons on his fly. “Are you afraid that I’m going to sneak in there while you’re fast asleep and try to make love to her? She is an attractive woman.”
“When did you start having a thing for women?”
His partner shrugged. “I’m not saying I want to fuck her. I’m only saying she’s good-looking. Don’t you think so?”
Wes stepped back from Samuel not believing his ears. He’s gone wacky. This has to be her doing. The man he cared about would never comment on a woman. Normally, Wes filled his ears about how big a guy’s dick was or the latest porn he had been looking at on the Internet. Never about women unless he thought she was a guy in a past incarnation. He wanted to say something, but it was clear Samuel was not in control of his faculties. Instead he walked back into the room. Adina was by the windows staring out at the horses, which were running in the enclosure.
“They’re so beautiful.”
“Yeah, they are. Now undo whatever spell you’ve put on my partner.”
Adina turned her eyes were puffy from the crying she had done before. “I’m not sure I know what you mean. I didn’t do anything to Samuel.”
“Of course you have. You’ve taken my macho, headstrong boyfriend, and turned him into a besotted fool.”

Guest Blog: Vampire Evolution

Vampire Evolution
by Maya DeLeina

Dusting my bookshelf the other day, I gently used my swifter to clean along the spine of my books. “Bite”, “Blood”, “Dark”, “Eternal”, “Immortal”, “Fang”, “Enthrall”, “Count”, I said out loud as I read off the words that jumped out at me in the titles.

You guessed it- I am an erotic vampire romance junkie!

There is nothing that incites emotions in me quite like vampire do. There is just something about the decadent lure and dark mystery of a sex-hungry vampire. Pair that with the imagery that is usually associated with vampires- castles, fog-laced forests, candles and dark rainy nights, and all I want to do is get my hands on more and more books.

Now, I have moods when it comes vampire tales. Sometimes, I like when a story stays true to the basic folklore of vampires- no sun, no food, no reflection in the mirror and the entire stake-through-the heart bit. Yes, it is expectant, but these are the staples I grew up with that are still fascinating to read. Yet, there are other times where I want to read about variations to the traditional myths.  I think it is interesting when authors “humanize” vampires to a point. I also don’t mind if the author doesn’t go into scientific detail of why vampires can do things that folklore has always said they couldn’t. I think this opens the door for reader’s imagination to run wild.

And this is exactly what happened to me as a reader- vampires “evolved” in my head.

When I sat down and penned my own erotic vampire romance stories, I set out to mix some of the traditional legends and new elements in my vampires. Since the excitement is all about discovering these twists and turns in the stories, I won’t reveal everything that are in my books. But, I will spill the beans on one thing I did come up with.

The eyes.

I’ll let an excerpt from my book, Veil of Seduction- Ambrose Heights Vampires 2, explain:

“Black?” Ryan asked, his attention sharp as ever.

Eilian sighed. “Ryan, when a human is turned, the sclera, the white part of your eyes, changes color during the transformation. It’s like the saying, the eyes are the window to the soul? You know, because they can give away what someone is thinking? Well, the eye color reveals the human character that imprints on vampire transformation. Red is passion. White is harmony. Yellow is valor. The continuum of traits within each shade can be far-reaching.”

            “And black?” Ryan asked.

Eilian looked at Ryan dead-on. “I think you know what black is.”

“Black is bad,” Rhys said bluntly.

Ryan turned in Rhys’s direction with a look of anger plastered on his face.

“Rhys! Easy!” Eilian yelled. Turning to Ryan, Eilian continued, “Ryan, black is dark and sometimes evil. The translation can be wide ranging. In your case, you recalled everything of yourself and your possessions.” Eilian paused and looked at Rhys. “So yes, while black is bad, we think your blackness is the transference of egotism—self-indulgence.”

“And why tell me this? You want to leave me an eternity to think about how wrong I lived my life, how I didn’t love or care for anyone in my life other than myself? Is that it?” Ryan blurted, full of annoyance and anger.

“Look, it can be something you can correct! Human lives now, they’re very complicated. There’s so much expectation in the short time they’re given on earth. It’s all ingrained—an encoding of achievements, possessions, relationships, benchmarks life is measured by. All of this can make a human place material possession at the top of their list. And with that, they can lose touch with what’s really important in life. Ryan, we’re telling this to you now, because you have the ability to change it. You’ll see. A vampire’s existence is undemanding. We have very basic needs. The concept of time is different for us. With this, we have the potential to feel with unfathomable measure, to love, to empathize, to cherish more deeply,” Eilian explained, trying to console Ryan.

“Steffan should’ve just left me alone to die rather than suffer with this,” Ryan said coldly.

“Steffan and I, we were turned a long time ago. Our maker gave us a choice, like Steffan gave you. After we awoke from the transformation, Steffan had an overwhelming need to find his wife. It was all that consumed him. Back then, we could only move at night. Long story short, when we got to his wife, it was too late. She had died in childbirth. Since that time, he’s been searching for a mate to fill the void in his heart. He cherishes love, Ryan. When he heard you mention a woman, above the pain and suffering you were in, he chose to change you so death wouldn’t take you away from your love like it did for him.”

So the eyes have everything to do with the vampires of Ambrose Heights. And depending on the color projected in the eyes, a tangled web of treachery, lies and deceit can shape the ultimate eternity for the vampires.

April Newsletter

Hi Everyone,

March went by in a blur. The first couple of weeks were great where I got a lot of word count down. Then the day job ramped up and I got way behind on the word count, but that’s okay. I did finish a new male/male shape shifter book called A Lion’s Heart and am waiting to hear back from the publisher.

Have plans to start on The Dragon and His Houseboy 2 and something else that I’m not sure quite where it fits. It’s apocalyptic with witches and angels. Hopefully it will come out. The characters are haunting me so we shall see. It is already spinning in my head. Of course I have two other WIPs that have to be finished and another one that I’m going to be starting soon.

Good news, Storm Riders 1-2 will be coming out in print later this year. Woohoo.

April is lining up to be a busy month with the writing and hopefully I can find some more balance with the day job and the writing. Thanks to everyone who has picked up one of my books. It is much appreciated.

Read below for some sneak peeks.

Hope you all have a great month.

Fae Dreams – M/F

Gracelan has dreams of being a world class fashion designer and she receives an inheritance from her aunt, she's able to pursue that dream. Then she discovers an odd request attached to her aunt's gift--a note that she should bring libations to a clearing on the property and introduce herself. Thinking the demand a little silly, Gracelan does it anyway.

The next morning, Gracelan notices a gift on her back porch. When she repeats the ceremony a second night, a handsome stranger knocks at her door a short time later,  and return the basket she'd left in the meadow. Intrigued by the visitor, Gracelan learns Lorian is a fae and she discovers he wants her more than anything. Drawn to him beyond anything she's ever experienced before, it isn't until Gracelan uncovers her secret past that they can hope to be together.

Excerpt:
When I opened my eyes again, I thought it was morning. Birds were chirping and sunlight streamed through the trees. I was at the end of the path by the table. When I looked down I was wearing a thin blue nightie. The air was warm and the scent of jasmine lingered on the breeze.
“Hello, Gracelan.”
I spun around and saw Lorian leaning against the tree. He was tan in the light with a glittery quality to his skin. My breath stopped in my throat when I saw him. He was beautiful. His lips were twisted into a breathtaking smile and it took all my will to stand my ground and not go to him.
“What do you want?”
“You.” He beckoned me over to him, wiggling his finger at me.
I tried to stop myself from going to him, but it seemed I had lost all my will power. He had control over me. This place was his to command and so was I. I knew it was a dream, but I wasn’t going to force myself to wake up. All of me desired to see where this would lead.
“Why me?” I stood a few inches from him.
He reached up and flipped the hair from my shoulder. His long finger traced my cheek then my lip. “I have my reasons. Tell me to leave and I will. Tell me you desire me and I’ll infuse you with a passion you’ve never known before.”
My thoughts were muddled. He was giving me a choice. Part of me shouted to wake up, but it was a small part. Mostly I yearned to be ravaged by him. I stood on tiptoe and brushed my lips across his which were infused with a subtle hint of vanilla. Lorian slid his arms around my waist and pulled my closer to him. His fingers rested on the top of my ass and moved lower until he gripped the cheeks firmly, the evidence of his arousal resting against my thigh. I bit his lip and thrust my tongue into his mouth. I let my hands side over his chest, between us until I cupped his cock. At that moment, he broke the kiss and lifted me up. A small squeal left my lips as he sat me on the table.
Lust burned in his eyes. He captured my lips and gripped my breasts. A feeling of haste and need overwhelmed me. I yanked down his pants and licked my lips at the sight of such a magnificent dick. I tried to stroke it more, but he growled and wrenched up my camisole exposing me to the cool air. With Lorian kneading my breasts, I pushed into him until he pinched my nipples and I cried out. The blaze he ignited in me needed to be fanned.
One hand left my breast while the other wrapped through my hair. Lorian pulled my head back so I could look into his eyes.
“Do you want me?”
I nodded.
“Say it.”

A Lion’s Heart -  M/M
Excerpt:
Long black hair hung to his broad shoulders. The craftsman who had tempted the face from the stone should be commended because Mysis was perfect. Prominent cheekbones with a smooth jaw line, a straight nose that came to a slight point and fine black eyebrows shadowed deep, honey brown eyes. His eyes were filled with wisdom and yet were so beautiful they captured Reseph. Tears burned his eyes at Mysis’s magnificence. He touched his face to the floor again not able to look at the glorious being before him.
Satin fingers trailed down his cheek and settled under his chin. The tip of Mysis’s nails pushed into his chin and forced him to lock eyes with the god. His heart fluttered like a trapped butterfly beating inside of his chest, trying to fly away from the awesomeness of the moment.
“M-My lord, what can I―?”
The god smiled and placed a finger on his lips to silence him. The gesture alone spurred sent a jolt of passion straight to his core. Reseph tried to push it aside knowing it was wrong to feel that way for the man before him.
“I want you to answer me a question.”
Reseph nodded, not wanting to say anything else in case it angered the god.
“Why did you take the libations from my altar this afternoon?”
Fear ran his blood cold. This would be the end of him. Even if it was a dream, the gods could do terrible things to him. He might wake up and find a lion waiting to devour him. He tried to look away, but the god held him by the chin. Mysis’s face remained calm and his eyes showed no anger, but Reseph wasn’t about to underestimate the celestial being. From what he had learned from Pawah, the gods were fickle.
“Forgive me. I-I didn’t take it for myself. I’d never think to put myself before you. I only did it because the mother of one of your lions wasn’t feeding her cub.”
“You do understand that sometimes even my blessed animals die. It is the cycle of life.”
He nodded. “Yes. But I couldn’t let him die and there was food aplenty.”
“So you stole from my altar to save the cub, not caring I might have use of the milk and honey left to me.”
Shivers ran through his body as he tried to stay calm. A tear slipped from his eye. “Forgive me, great Mysis. It will never happen again. I swear. Please don’t punish me.”
The god took Reseph’s face between his hands. Even though terror gripped him, he couldn’t help but be aroused by the god’s soft touch. It stole his breath and ran his throat dry. His eyes widened and when Mysis ran a finger down his cheek. It took everything in him not to let out a moan.
“You are forgiven, Reseph. Not many of my priests would show the compassion to help one of my sacred animals. I admire that. I had to see for myself if your act reflected your heart. And it does.”
“Thank you, my lord.” Relief flooded him as the god admitted he wasn’t going to take out vengeance on him.
Mysis wiped the tear from his cheek. That soft touch made him yearn for more. “You have my permission to glean what you need from my altar to care for this little one. If the priest questions you, pray to me and I will be sure he doesn’t give any trouble. If you mistreat the cub or don’t keep up your care for him, I shall be back. Know that I shall be watching.”
“Of course, magnificent one.” He breathed a sigh of relief, but the god hadn’t released him. “Is there something else I can do for you?”
Mysis trailed his finger down Reseph’s throat and over his collarbone. “I’ve had my eye on you for some time. You’re very pious in your devotions to me. The village girls who pray to me have their eye on you, but you don’t give them a second look. Why is that?”
His eyes widened. Why is he asking me this? It shouldn’t matter who he was attracted to. He wasn’t allowed to have intercourse because it was the edict of any priest to keep himself pure to serve the gods. Mysis’s fingers feathered over Reseph’s chest until they rested above his heart which nearly stopped. “I’ve never found them desirable. It’s always been men, Celestial One.”
The god leaned closer until his lips were only inches from Reseph’s. “And would it bother you if I visited you from time to time?”
“Who am I to deny you anything?”
Mysis laughed. “Even in my infinite power, I would not take away your free will. I sense your longing for me in this form. And I know your true devotion.” He trailed his finger over Reseph’s bald head which made him close his eyes in ecstasy. “Would it please you if I visited you again?”

Guest Blog Post: Revisiting old Characters by Doris O'Connor

Buy Link

One of the things I really like about a series is the revisiting of familiar characters. In Lure Of Forever you will find a lot of characters from Lure Of The Blood. It was fun seeing how Ion and Marnie related to each other a couple of years on.

You don't have to read Lure Of The Blood to understand Lure Of Forever. Each story stands on its own, but if you have read Ion's and Marnie's story, then I think you too will have a little chuckle at this scene. Well, hopefully you'll chuckle even if you haven't read it.

"Here, sit down, before you fall down, and I’ll make you some breakfast. Knowing Lucas you'll need the sustenance this morning."
Heat rose in Coralie's cheeks at the implied suggestion and Ion laughed.
"Do as you're told. When she gets like that it's not worth arguing. She barged in here about an hour ago, insisting on cooking breakfast to keep your strength up." He leaned forward and flicked Coralie's hair off her neck with a low whistle. "And looking at those, she was right, as usual."
Coralie pulled her hair back over the tiny wounds and then thought better of it. She wasn't ashamed of Lucas's marks on her body and she twisted her hair up with the hair band on her wrist.  Ion's smile deepened at her actions, his eyes once again resting on her neck and she stared him down. What was his problem?
She jumped when a huge plate, filled to the brim with eggs, bacon, sausages and toast appeared in front of her. Marnie's warm hand caressed her shoulder as she urged Coralie to eat.
"Go on. I want to see all of that gone and I'm not leaving until you've eaten it all. You may want to stock up on iron, too. It'll take you less time to recover that way."
"What?" Coralie squeaked her response and her hand went to her neck involuntarily. "I'm fine, really. He didn't do anything I didn't want him to."
Ion's smirk in response to her protests earned him a slap upside the head from Marnie. His wolf growled in response, but he smiled at his wife and envy poked Coralie with a red-hot stab out of nowhere. The look of love the couple exchanged—she wanted that so badly her insides twisted in on themselves. She raised her coffee cup to her lips with unsteady hands and glanced towards the door leading to the cellar. The sunlight streaming into her kitchen just confirmed the futility of her thoughts. He was a vampire, an ancient one at that. He would soon grow bored and move on, and even if he didn't—he didn't age—she would. Every day she grew older and one day he would wake up to an old woman and then…
She screwed her eyes shut, disgusted with herself and her rambling thoughts. It wasn't as though he'd declared his everlasting love to her. Circumstances had thrown them together and he felt honor-bound to protect her. And he was a man— of course he'd take the sex on offer. It was her own stupid mistake that she'd fallen in love with him. He'd never made any false promises to her. She swiped away the tear running down her cheek with an impatient wave of her hand and opened her eyes to find Marnie and Ion both watching her.
"Really, I'm okay. He didn't hurt me."
Ion simply raised an eyebrow at her. Marnie's eyes darted to Coralie's neck and she smiled, before she looked away, seemingly lost in thought. Ion took her hand and murmured something that Coralie couldn't quite catch and Marnie cupped Ion's cheek tenderly, before addressing Coralie with a smile.
"Of course he didn't. Lucas is in love with you, any fool can see that."
Ion choked on the swig of coffee he'd just taken and Coralie wasn't at all sure she wasn't staring openmouthed at Marnie. She couldn't be serious.
"Forgive Marnie. She sees romance in the air everywhere." Ion's amused tones filled the kitchen, but his wife simply pulled a face at him.
"Don't listen to him. He's a typical male—can't see anything unless you hit him over the head with it." She dismissed Ion's warning growl with a wave of her hand and leaned forward to emphasize her point. "Is the great Lucas not slumming it right now in your basement?" She clapped her hand at Coralie's reluctant nod. "Well, then. Don't you think he could have stayed in any number of places, should he have wished it? Why do you think he's so insistent to stay close to you? The pack could handle your protection detail just fine." Marnie flicked a strand of her hair off her face with an impatient shake of her head and fixed her chocolate eyes firmly on Coralie. "No, this is personal and I couldn't be more delighted. It's about time he settled down."
"Settled down?" Coralie didn't seem able to project her voice with any conviction over the blood rushing in her ears. Marnie had to be imagining things. "He doesn't seem the settling down type."
"Of course he is. Just takes the right woman to make these stubborn males see sense."
"Watch who you're calling stubborn, little one," Ion interrupted his wife and Coralie mumbled her excuses, whilst Ion kissed his wife senseless. She couldn't stay and witness this anymore. It was too painful.

Okay maybe chuckle and feel for Coralie. Things are about to go from bad to worse for my poor heroine…

Book Blurb:
You'd think a three thousand year old vampire would believe in forever. Not Lucas. He has an escaped demon to hunt and no time for the follies of humankind. When strip-o-gram Coralie arrives on his boat, she awakens human instincts long buried, and protecting her becomes of paramount importance.

Coralie, standing in for a friend, is mortally embarrassed at having stumbled onto the wrong boat. The vampire wannabe she encounters makes her body sing in ways she never thought possible. Finding out that he is indeed the real thing throws everything she ever believed in into doubt.

With the demon closing in and the future of humanity in peril will they manage to find their forever?
