Writing from The Hart Chapter 3

I haven't really blogged much this year. Why? Well no real reason and many reasons I guess. My life is mostly boring. The exciting stuff goes on inside my head which is where I like to keep it. I've had my fair share of exciting when I was a teenager and in my mid-twenties. And I'm happy to be leading the boring life. One of the more quiet aspects about my life I don't talk about in public much is I'm a psychic medium, clairvoyant and empath.

This wasn't something I woke up one day and said hey wouldn't it be fun to be. It's not something I can completely turn off or ignore. Tried that and it didn't work out so well. Because of the experiences I've had they have influenced my writing which is one reason I feel so at home writing paranormal. Besides having an interest in vampires and ghosts in general I'm also pagan so that plays into my writing as well. And lately I've been writing about grim reapers. Again personal experience there too which is hard to explain without sounding crazy. But then again when you tell someone that you hear voices in your head that aren't your own  - or your characters'-then you get strange and funny looks.

It's always amusing when in my day job we get talking about past job experiences and of course I always tell them I was a psychic because well hey I still list it on my resume since it helped put me through college. Most find it interesting and ask me about it. Others I'm sure thing it's all - wooo-- and I'm talking out of my ass.

However, yeah, no. The place I used to work at is still in existence. And it was just a little over a year ago that my mentor, friend, old boss, passed away and it really struck home. Alex was one of the most kindhearted people I had met, stern, crazy, and a whole other host of things that made me want to kill him at times and hug him. And of course  he might be gone from the world but the bastard still owes me money. LOL.

I found Alex on the old Compuserve online chat rooms where he was running a psychic development classes. And at that time I was still in high school and dealing with all this crap with home life and well with these crazy ass things going on with the ghosts in the various apartments I lived in, the typical shit from being a teenager, and everything else. We talked for months and he invited me into Boston to interview with him. So my mom and I went cause at this time I was a couple months from graduating high school and Alex had no idea I was so young. He had me do an interview with on the psychics there which constituted of reading her cards. I had no fucking clue what I was doing. Not really. But he hired me that day and I started 3 days after I graduated high school. It helped my college was three blocks away.

Four and a half years later I had to part ways with the Tearoom because it was my time, but in those years I met so many wonderful people who have stayed with me even today. Some have also gone from this world and left a hole in my heart. But life goes on and I see the occasionally in dreams.

How does this all work into my writing besides shaping my plot lines? Well it spawned a series of books called Soul Reaper Series. I came to a point in my life i knew I wanted to write and it takes a lot of energy to birth a book and do readings. So I had to chose reading or writing. The books won out.

In many ways I am happy how things turned out. And I always wonder if I should go back to doing readings, but I'm firmly reminded that writing is my path and while I'll never get rid of my abilities they are more just another side of me.

The Romance of Horror

Five years ago I met an author by the name of Stephen Zimmer. He was with this press called Seventh Star Press and they did speculative fiction.  Stephen was a pretty cool dude and we became friends. A couple of years go by and I end up at Fandom Fest in Louisville, KY at one of the.hottest weekends of the year and don't you know it, the AC goes out in the hotel. Needless to say it was a horror. However, Stephen was there manning the booth for Seventh Star and trying to run the literary track and the gaming track, too, if I remember correctly. We talked some when we could and he needed some help that weekend so I manned the table and got the first hand experience of seeing just how cool Seventh Star was.

It was then I knew I wanted to write for them. Now all I needed was a story.
And it wasn't going to be romance either. It had to be something that got me back to the roots of what I started writing.
Horror it was.
In high school and through college, I wrote horror or some fantasy. The first series I wrote is more horror with erotic and romantic elements woven through the storyline. Nevertheless, my very first publisher seemed the series to be erotic, paranormal romance, which it is not, and there it has stayed ever since.
In most of my books there is darker element. While I enjoy writing romance, I'm a little burnt out on it. So while thinking of the story to write for Seventh Star, I kept on romanticizing the horror until the idea of Death's Dance was born. While it grew I worked on other things until I had the plot down and I agonized over writing it. Four drafts later, I had a book and a year and a half had passed.
So I sent in a proposal for a series to Seventh Star and waited. And waited. But while the months passed, I wrote books 2 & 3 of the series with a fourth one metastasizing in my head.
And then the day came, I got my acceptance and it made for an early Christmas present of 2013. It was a great day, but the even greater day was seeing my book finally come out. I'm always proud when one of my books is released into the world. But I am extremely proud that Death's Dance is out now. It took a lot out of me to write the book and I hope it will be well received by those who pick it up and read it.

The plot originally started with one question, what would happen if you accepted a dance from death?

What do you think would happen?

Blurb:

Being a psychic, you would think talking to the dead was a walk in the park. However, it’s not always that simple. The hooded specter haunting me is one I’ve been dreaming about since I was a kid. One day, he appeared in my bedroom mirror. Good. Evil. I don’t know what his true intentions are.

Enter Jackson, ghost hunting show host extraordinaire, and my ex, to save me from the big bad ghost.

From there…well…it’s been a world wind of complications. My house burnt down. I’m being stalked by an ancient evil and gotten myself back into the world of being a ghost hunting psychic. Jackson dragged me, along with a few other psychics, to a ghost town wiped off the map called Death’s Dance.

From there things went from bad to worse.

Being a Psychic in a (Un)Sensitive World

Hello my name is Crymsyn and I am a psychic.

Phew...boy did that get a load off my chest.

Yes, you read that right. I am a psychic well to define it really, I am a clairvoyant empathic medium. What does all that mean? It means that I see stuff, feel stuff, and can talk to the dead.

Being psychic is not something I talk about very often, but it is what gives me the inspiration for many of my books. They say write what you know, so I do.

I create my characters based on experiences I have based on being Pagan and being a psychic among a few other things. I discovered I had abilities when I was twelve based on a friend of mine giving me her earrings to hold for some band thing at the time and I began telling her about her deceased aunt who I had never met or even knew she had. Of course, if I look back on it now, I realize that I was sensing and seeing things before that, but it was then I realized something was different.

By the age of sixteen, I had lived in three different houses that were haunted one by a little girl who loved to play. One where there were parties in the attic where there was no furniture and no people. An an entity who screamed at me a lot and felt the creepiness of the building. Another was my grandmother's house where something lurked in my closet, but don't they always lurk in the closet. I had a harrowing experience there where something grabbed my feet and something else grabbed my hands and I was being used as tug of war. My take on the whole thing was that something was trying to get me and something was also protecting me because I never felt bad in my grandparents' house except for my room.

And then there was the friend's house I stayed with in high school, but that is another story.

When I was seventeen/eighteen my abilities were going out of control and I found a wonderful mentor who helped me hone my gifts. Two days after I graduated high school I started working for a psychic salon in Boston called the Original Tremont Tearoom and spent five wonderful years there while in college reading there among a wonderful group of people who helped pull a country girl into being a city girl and showing me a whole different way of life. It was a time I will always remember and spawned my Soul Reaper series.

Toward the end, I was losing my voice doing readings because I had to make a life decision, follow my path of writing books or doing readings for a living. I chose writing.

I no longer do readings professionally, and if you comment and ask for one the answer is still no, but once and a bit I will turn up volume and help out some friends if need be. Once I chose writing I turned down the dial on my abilities so that I don't have to listen to the things that constantly nag at me for attention and over time I've learned to ignore them too, but once and a while some stuff slips through the cracks.

It's still difficult for me to be in a room full of large people because of all the noise and I avoid graveyards because I don't need anyone coming home with me.

Putting down psychic as prior job experience has been fun because potential employers think I'm pulling their leg until they check my references, but at this point I'm so entrenched in my current day job I really don't worry about it because it was so long ago, but I always answer employers with a warm smile and a warning I can read your mind so don't piss me off, just kidding of course. I really can't read any one's mind. I'm not that good.

Overall, being psychic is part of who I am and there is nothing I can do to change it even if I try and turn it off.  Besides I garner inspiration from the world around me all the time for my books because of it and give advice to those who need it.

Some folks don't believe it and that's okay. My belief is that everyone is sensitive or psychic. It just all depends on if someone is tuned into it or not. Believe me or don't, that is up to you. But of you ask me for a reading the answer is still no. I'd rather write you into one of my books.

Wouldn't that be more fun than me telling your future?
