The Art of Sex Panel

Hello all,

Sex.

Yes that is the topic of discussion today.

This past weekend I was on an awesome panel with many wonderful authors including, Marica Collette, Alexandra Christian, and Susan Roddey. And of course the topic was about sex.

Now when you include alcohol, a late night, and sex you are bound to end up with some interesting conversations. However, even with the giveaway including the Big Bags of Sin that were won the six inch rainbow penis sucker was the talking stick and stole the show.

Although no liquor was imbibed on my part, it was a very informative panel and hopefully we were able to give some readers some insights into how to write sex and that no. Erotica writers don't practice everything they write. There is some rules one has to follow when writing sex.

1. Keep it interesting.
2. Keep it fun.
3. Make sure all the body parts are inserted in the right place and a third hand appears from out of no where.
4. Make sure the sex moves the story forward.
5. Last, but not certainly not all, please make sure that safe book sex is practiced. No one wants to get a paper cut on their sensitive parts while reading.

Sex is always fun. Don't you think?

Sex is a normal part of life. It can be recreational, series, and involve so many positions that it makes me wonder how can a person contort themselves in certain ways. It's enjoyable and squishy all at the same time and yet some people find it hard to live without.

But when people try to talk about sex, they blush or they can't talk about it at all. Some have no taboos and are open to talking about everything including all the kink that can be involved with sex as well. Overall, the most basic point being if you talk about it or not, think it's funny or not, this is how we all got here. Procreation is something that our parents did, my parents did (even though I really don't want to picture that), and their parents before them did.  No matter what it boils down it, it's a part of life and it sells.

This past Saturday I attended ConCarolinas, a sci-fi/fantasy convention that is local to me in Charlotte to support my friends, Alexandra Christian and Siobhan Kinkade and to see some friends I only run into at the Con. I wasn't there in any official author capacity, but to hang out and have a good time maybe sell a few books for my friends. It was a long day, panels were attended, drinks were had all around, I met some awesome new people, and then it was nearing midnight and the erotica panel came around.

So I attended and since Siobhan and Alexandra were the only authors up there, I got dragged into going up and speaking which was awesome. There was a large gift bag of adult goodies, books, and others treats being given away donated by the lovely Bobbie Jo Baynard.  The three of us talked, rocked, and conquered the erotica panel with a great audience, a microphone that kept drooping, and six inch rainbow penis sucker that stole the show.

Writing erotic romance was never what I started off writing. I started with horror and have recently turned my hand back to writing more horror and making my romances more graphic because that is what moves me. However, you have to admit that no matter what sex is an integral part of any relationship and when I wrote my first sex scene I blushed all the way through it. Now, blushing is not a problem just vocabulary. It's difficult finding the right words for the human anatomy and making sure which limb is where and who is touching who.

So far I seem to be doing a good job of it. I haven't gotten any complaints.

Sex, Death, Cowboys, Vampires & Bigfoot

I'm sure you're scratching your head wondering how Bigfoot fits into the list above.

Well, these are only some of the subjects that I write about. Over the last seven years working with various publishers, and amassing more titles than I can count, I've come to realize that I love writing. I guess that would be obvious. Sinking into all the different realities I've created and the ones who linger still in my brain has kept me sane when dealing with the stress in my life. I'm guess that is the way with most writers.

In all this time, I've written books based on current selling trends and I've written the ones that I want to read as well. I have some that I even go back and re-read because those characters have gotten underneath my skin.

I've created cowboys and they were fun. Shifters are always great to do. I favor writing about shifters turning into ravens or dragons. Wolves are popular and so are cats so sometimes they take over my brain and become the center of a story. Vampires are dear to my heart for reasons very few people know and I try to create each one a little different than the last and it doesn't matter to me what the trends do, I'm going to write them anyway.

Through all my books, my favorite character is Azrael, my Angel of Death. He's more than grim reaper, he's also...well I'm not going to give away his story but you can read about it in Masquerade, Soul Reaper, Angelic Cravings, and Falling. But he has become more than just a character in my books, he has become a muse of sorts and demands to be put into as many plot lines as he can find his way into. Right now he pops up in over twenty at this point, lending a hand to those characters who need it.

With him being my most written character, there are others who some people ask where in the world did you get an idea for that say writing about Bigfoot and a green shape shifting alien in Hairy & Hung or a were-gingerbread woman in Ginger Bites. Bigfoot and the alien was concocted out of a conversation at a Halloween party at how you would have Bigfoot get it on with some thing. So I went with the idea of an alien too because I don't write much sci-fi stuff and poof.  The were gingerbread was an idea that popped into my mind after watching a horror movie with a gingerbread killing everyone so why not combine it with a werewolf story for Christmas and see what I get. Sure it's silly, but we all love Christmas miracles. These are the books that are fun to write because they are a little far fetched and show off my dry wit...Hahaha. But you can't take these books so seriously all the time because hell I certainty don't. I understand people might not get them, but they are awesome to create.

And of course there is sex in the books. What is erotic romance without sex?

 So if you like quirky, can stand hunky vampires, or an accident prone witch who falls in love with a Celtic god, peppered with supernatural menages then you and I will get along just fine.
